Habitat
Breeds in prairie wetlands, preferring small, shallow lakes and ponds, willow communities, marshes, mudflats and perhaps sedge meadows.

Range (Guide)

Canada (B), Mexico (E) (NB), USA (NB).

West-central Canada (Wood Buffalo National Park). Winters on Texas coast of Gulf of Mexico (Aransas National Wildlife Refuge). Small experimental flock introduced in Rocky Mts, western USA; experimental non-migratory flock currently being established in Florida, south-eastern USA.
