Habitat
Light, open thornbush and occasionally also adjacent tussocky plains.
Ethiopia (B) (NB), Somalia (B) (NB).
Eastern Ethiopia and northern Somalia.

Status NT
Disturbance, hunting, cultivation, firewood collection and overgrazing are the main threats.

Voice
A high-pitched ratte 'we we we', usually uttered at dusk.
Subspecies
Formerly placed in genus Heterotetrax, along with Karoo Bustard (Heterotetrax vigorsii) and Ruppell's Bustard (Heterotetrax rueppelii).
No subspecies.
