Status CR

For more information see BirdLife International Species Factsheet.

Voice
Booming moans during display and barking or bellowing sounds when alarmed.

Subspecies
In past, genus frequently labelled Choriotis, but Ardeotis has priority. Genus sometimes merged with Otis. Forms superspecies with Australian Bustard (Ardeotis australis), the two sometimes separated from their two congeners in genus Austrotis, or, erroneously, in genus Choriotis, but type species of latter is Arabian Bustard (Ardeotis arabs). Superspecies sometimes considered to include Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori), as well as Australian Bustard (Ardeotis australis) and all have even been lumped into single species, Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori). All four Ardeotis have occasionally been placed in same superspecies.

No subspecies.
