Subspecies
A member of the large Grey-green Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus purpuratus) species-group, most closely related to Red-moustached Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus mercierii). Usually associated with the Grey-green Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus purpuratus) subgroup.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- viridior Murphy, 1924 - Nukuhiva, Uahuka and Uapou (northern Marquesas Is).
- dupetithouarsii (Neboux, 1840) - Hivaoa, Tahuata, Mohotani and Fatuhiva (southern Marquesas Is).
