Subspecies
In past, sometimes placed in genus Sphenurus. Closely allied to Wedge-tailed Green-pigeon (Treron sphenurus) and Taiwan Green-pigeon (Treron formosae), and more distantly to Sumatran Green-pigeon (Treron oxyurus) species-group. Several other subspecies described, but now considered invalid.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
sieboldii (Temminck, 1835) - Japan, mountains of Taiwan, and eastern China (Jiangsu, Fujian).
fopingensis Cheng, Tan & Sung, 1973 - Central China (eastern Sichuan, southern Shaanxi).
murielae (Delacour, 1927) - South-central China (Guizhou, Guangxi, Hainan) through northern and central Vietnam (Tonkin, Annam) to extreme northern Thailand.
