Subspecies
In past, sometimes placed in genus Sphenurus. Closely allied to Sumatran Green-pigeon (Treron oxyurus) and Yellow-vented Green-pigeon (Treron seimundi), and these species may form a link between the African and other Asian Treron species. More distantly related to the Wedge-tailed Green-pigeon (Treron sphenurus) species-group.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
apicauda Blyth, 1846 - Himalayan foothills from Kumaon to eastern Assam and south-western China (southern Sichuan, north-western and southern Yunnan) and southern Myanmar (Tenasserim).
lowei (Delacour & Jabouille, 1924) - Mountains of west, north-western and north-eastern Thailand, central Laos and central Vietnam.
laotianus (Delacour, 1926) - Mountains of Laos and northern Vietnam.
