Subspecies
Allied to African Treron species. Closest affinities appear to be with Bruce's Green-pigeon (Treron waalia).
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
phillipsi Ripley, 1949 - Sri Lanka.
chlorigaster (Blyth, 1843) - India south of Gangetic Plain.
phoenicopterus (Latham, 1790) - Eastern Pakistan and northern India east through Himalayan foothills and Gangetic Plain to Assam and Bangladesh.
viridifrons Blyth, 1846 - Extreme south-central China (southern Yunnan), Myanmar (to northern Tenasserim) and north-western Thailand.
