Subspecies
Allied to African Treron species. Closest affinities appear to be with Bruce's Green-pigeon (Treron waalia).

The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

  • phillipsi Ripley, 1949   -  Sri Lanka.
  • chlorigaster (Blyth, 1843)   -  India south of Gangetic Plain.
  • phoenicopterus (Latham, 1790)   -  Eastern Pakistan and northern India east through Himalayan foothills and Gangetic Plain to Assam and Bangladesh.
  • viridifrons Blyth, 1846   -  Extreme south-central China (southern Yunnan), Myanmar (to northern Tenasserim) and north-western Thailand.
  • annamensis (Ogilvie-Grant, 1909)   -  Eastern Thailand, southern Laos and southern Vietnam (Annam, Cochinchina).
