Subspecies
Closely related to Thick-billed Green-pigeon (Treron curvirostra). Has at times been considered to include any or all of Grey-cheeked Green-pigeon (Treron griseicauda), Flores Green-pigeon (Treron floris), Sumba Green-pigeon (Treron teysmannii) and Timor Green-pigeon (Treron psittaceus) as subspecies. Subspecies chloroptera, axillaris and aromatica sometimes considered megasubspecies. Numerous other subspecies have been described, many based on minor differences.
The following 8 subspecies are recognised:
pompadora (Gmelin, 1789) - Indian Subcontinent (Himalayan foothills of Uttar Pradesh south to western Ghats and Kerala, and east to Assam) and Sri Lanka.
chloroptera Blyth, 1846 - Andaman and Nicobar Is.
phayrei (Blyth, 1862) - Myanmar through south-western China (southern Yunnan) and Thailand to Laos and southern Vietnam (Cochinchina). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Ashy-headed Green-pigeon (Treron phayrei).
amadoni Parkes, 1965 - Northern Luzon (northern Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Philippine Green-pigeon (Treron axillaris).
axillaris (Bonaparte, 1855) - Southern Luzon, Polillo, Alabat, Catanduanes, Lubang and Mindoro (northern Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Philippine Green-pigeon (Treron axillaris).
canescens Parkes, 1965 - Mandate south to Mindanao and Basilan (eastern Philippines). Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Philippine Green-pigeon (Treron axillaris).
everetti (Rothschild, 1894) - Sulu Archipelago. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Philippine Green-pigeon (Treron axillaris).
aromatica (J. F. Gmelin, 1789) - Islands in Flores Sea (Tanahjampea, Kalao, Kalaotoa) and southern Moluccas (Buru).
