Subspecies
Has no obvious close relatives.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- terrestris Gray, 1849 - Salawati, and north-western New Guinea east to Geelvink and Etna Bays.
- mayri Rothschild, 1931 - North-central New Guinea, from R Memberamo east to Humboldt Bay.
- leucopareia (Meyer, AB, 1886) - Southern New Guinea, from R Setekwa east to Milne Bay.
