Indonesia (B), Timor-Leste (B) (NB).

Timor and Wetar (eastern Lesser Sundas).

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation is the main threat.

Voice
A short, soft, but quite penetrating two-note 'whu-wup', sometimes changed into a three-note call by the addition of a brief guttural 'trrr'.

Subspecies
Formerly isolated in monospecific subgenus Alopecoenas. A distinctive form of uncertain affinities, perhaps an early derivative of White-breasted Ground-dove (Alopecoenas jobiensis) stock.

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Juvenile Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps indica) which has some green on wings and mantle and pale belly and forehead.
