Habitat
Closed-canopy primary and secondary lowland forest, preferring dry forest substrates on gentle slopes. From sea-level - 750 m.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Mindanao Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba crinigera ), Luzon Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba luzonica ), Negros Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba keayi ) and Sulu Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba menagei ). All have been considered conspecific by some authorities.
