Subspecies
Related to Golden-spotted Ground-dove (Metriopelia aymara).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

saturatior Chubb, C, 1918 - Andes of south-western Colombia (from Pasto, in Nariño) and Ecuador.
melanoptera (Molina, 1782) - Peru (from at least upper Marañón Valley) and Bolivia to Chile (south to Colchagua) and western Argentina (south to Santa Cruz and western Chubut). Also north-eastern Isla Grande in Tierra del Fuego.
