Habitat
Primary and mature secondary forest. From 500 - 700 m.
Papua New Guinea (B) (NB).
Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction through logging and predation by introduced cats and dogs are the main threats.

Habits
Usually seen feeding on the ground. When flushed flies and perches in trees.
Food
Arboreal fruits.
Voice
Not well known. A monotonously repeated 'pip-yia', the second note higher-pitched and upslurred.
Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with New Guinea Bronzewing (Henicophaps albifrons).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Metallic Pigeon (Columba vitiensis) also has white throat patch but is darker with metallic green fringes across upperparts. Yellow-legged Pigeon (Columba pallidiceps) has uniformly pale grey head and yellow legs.
