Nest
Rough platform of twigs and roots, in a tree.

Eggs (Guide)
2; glossy, white; oval-ellipsoidal. Incubation: about 18 days; by both sexes.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Sunda Collared-dove (Streptopelia bitorquata), Barbary Dove (Streptopelia roseogrisea) and White-winged Collared-dove (Streptopelia reichenowi). Sometimes considered conspecific with Barbary Dove (Streptopelia roseogrisea).

Proposed subspecies stoliczkae of Chinese Turkestan based on feral birds.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • decaocto (Frivaldszky, 1838)   -  Europe to Asia Minor, Turkestan and northern China and south to north-eastern Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, India, Sri Lanka and western China.
  • xanthocycla (Newman, 1906)   -  Myanmar, Shan States, Yunnan and eastern China. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Burmese Collared-dove (Streptopelia xanthocycla).
