Introduced to Comoros.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Vinaceous Dove (Streptopelia vinacea).
The following 6 subspecies are recognised:
- electa (Madarász, 1913) - Western Ethiopia.
- somalica (Erlanger, 1905) - Eastern Ethiopia, Somalia and northern Kenya south to Uaso Nyiro R.
- tropica (Reichenow, 1902) - Central Kenya to Angola, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
- onguati Macdonald, 1957 - South-western Angola and northern Namibia.
- damarensis (Hartlaub & Finsch, 1870) - Namibia, Botswana and south-western Zimbabwe.
- capicola (Sundevall, 1857) - Western Cape Province, South Africa.
