Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical montane moist forest, plantations. From sea-level - 1,600 m.

Range (Guide)

Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], C�te dIvoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Uganda.

Liberia east to western Uganda, south through Congo basin to central Zaire and north-western Angola; also Bioko (Fernando Póo).

Subspecies
Fraser's Eagle-Owl (Bubo poensis) and Nduk Eagle-Owl (Bubo vosseleri) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include vosseleri as a subspecies of Fraser's Eagle-Owl (Bubo poensis).

May form superspecies with Nduk Eagle-Owl (Bubo vosseleri), and sometimes treated as conspecific.

No subspecies.
