Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest. From 700 - 1,800 m.

Range (Guide)

Venezuela.

Mountainous regions of northern Venezuela, from Falcón (Sierra de San Luis) south to Lara and Trujillo, and east to Sucre and northern Monagas.

Subspecies
Possibly forms a superspecies with Narrow-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon stenurus) and Short-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon poortmani). Subspecies ignotus of Narrow-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon stenurus) has been considered synonymous with Green-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon alice). Probably includes Chlorostilbon micans, with all of plumage rich reddish-golden, known only from type specimen of unknown origin. "Ptochoptera iolaima", known from a specimen taken at Ypanema, S�o Paulo (Brazil), is probably a hybrid with Short-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon poortmani).
