Subspecies
Chlorostilbon canivetii (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Canivet's Emerald (Chlorostilbon canivetii), Golden-crowned Emerald (Chlorostilbon auriceps) and Cozumel Emerald (Chlorostilbon forficatus) following AOU (1998).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Blue-tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon mellisugus).

No subspecies.
