Habitat destruction and degradation with high-quality cerrado grasslands are being rapidly destroyed by mechanised agriculture, intensive cattle-ranching, afforestation, invasive grasses, excessive use of pesticides and annual burning, trade, are the main threats.

Placement within genus Amazona has been questioned.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Turquoise-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva) which is larger, with turquoise forecrown and different breast pattern.
