Habitat
Different habitats depending on location. In Cuba dense woodland, in the Bahamas, native broadleaf and pine woodlands, and in the Cayman Islands (to UK), dry forest on the ridge-top plateau and nearby agricultural land. From sea-level - 800 m.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation due to housing development and trapping for cage-bird trade are the main threats.

Voice
Very noisy. A wide variety of squawks and screeches with variation between populations.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Yellow-billed Amazon (Amazona collaria) and Hispaniolan Amazon (Amazona ventralis), and all may be conspecific. Birds of I of Pines formerly awarded subspecies palmarum.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
bahamensis (Bryant, H, 1867) - Bahamas, on Great Inagua and Abaco.
leucocephala (Linnaeus, 1758) - Cuba and I of Pines.
caymanensis (Cory, 1886) - Grand Cayman I.
hesterna Bangs, 1916 - Cayman Brac and formerly Little Cayman.
