Subspecies
Loriculus amabilis (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Moluccan Hanging-Parrot (Loriculus amabilis) and Sula Hanging-Parrot (Loriculus sclateri) following Collar (1997).

Forms part of the Sulawesi Hanging-Parrot (Loriculus stigmatus) superspecies. Sometimes treated as conspecific with Sula Hanging-Parrot (Loriculus sclateri) and Sangihe Hanging-Parrot (Loriculus catamene).

No subspecies.
