Subtropical and tropical heavily degraded former forest. Also, subtropical and tropical lowland dry grassland, dry and moist shrubland, inland wetlands. From sea-level - 2,300 m.
Argentina, Aruba, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, USA (B), Venezuela.
Gulf of Mexico from Texas and Mexico south through Central America and western South America to northern Chile and north-western Argentina, and northern South America east to Guyana; Netherlands Antilles. Disperses northern into continental North America.
