Caribbean parts of Florida through Bahamas to Greater and Lesser Antilles, and southern Mexico (Sinaloa and Tamaulipas to Yucatán and Oaxaca) through Central America to Colombia, then east to estuary of Amazon; Trinidad.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Cocos Cuckoo (Coccyzus ferrugineus), with which has been considered conspecific.
Up to 13 subspecies have been described, but these were all based on small samples; larger series now available show no constant differences in colour or size among island populations in West Indies, or between island and continental populations.
