Subspecies
Formerly considered a colour morph of Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus), but is smaller and shorter-winged than sympatric form of latter.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
aeruginosus Stresemann, 1931 - Moluccas. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus).
heinrichi Stresemann, 1931 - Northern Moluccas (Halmahera and Bacan).
