Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
serratus (Sparrman, 1786) - Southern Africa.
pica (Hemprich & Ehrenberg, 1833) - Sub-Saharan Africa south to Tanzania and Zambia, and north-western India to Nepal and Myanmar, occasionally southern Tibet, in foothills of Mt Everest.
jacobinus (Boddaert, 1783) - Southern India and Sri Lanka.
