Purple-bearded Bee-eater (Meropogon forsteni) [XC193908]
by Frank Lambert from Sulawesi, Lore Lindu, upper Anaso Trail, Poso, Indonesia (call)
Nest
In a chamber of a tunnel in a sandy bank, cliff or cutting.
Subspecies
Bears startling resemblance to western African Black-headed Bee-eater (Merops breweri) in some aspects of plumage and long, attenuated central rectrices, but bill shape and beardedness differ, and there is no good reason to suppose that the two are closely related.
