Habitat
Hilly areas of Combretum-wooded grassland, mixed woodland of Albizia-Acacia-Commiphora (including riverine woods) and also cultivated areas with scattered trees. From 1,200 - 1,500 m.

Range (Guide)

Burundi (B) (NB), Rwanda (B) (NB), Tanzania [United Republic of] (B) (NB), Uganda (B) (NB).

South-western Uganda, eastern Rwanda and north-western Tanzania.

Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status NT
Habitat loss due to human encroachment is the main threat.

Habits
In pairs and groups of up to five or more while feeding.

Figs, berries and seeds, insects.

Subspecies
Related to White-headed Barbet (Lybius leucocephalus) through Zambian Barbet (Lybius chaplini), the combined group also fairly close to Vieillot's Barbet (Lybius vieilloti). Also related to Black-billed Barbet (Lybius guifsobalito) and Black-collared Barbet (Lybius torquatus). Distinct from all, however, in morphology. Duet form nearest to that of Zambian Barbet (Lybius chaplini). Songs of male and female differ, as they do in Black-billed Barbet (Lybius guifsobalito).

No subspecies.
