Habitat
Very open woodland with high densities of fig trees Ficus sycomorus. From 900 - 1,400 m.

Range (Guide)

Zambia (B) (NB).

South-central Zambia, in area between Kafue Park and Moshi in west, east to Lusaka.

Rarity Status
Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is 5,200 (2010) and decreasing.

Status VU
Habitat destruction, degradation and fragmentation through woodland clearance for agriculture (especially maize, wheat and sugar cane), and for housing, is the main threat.

Mainly figs but also on other fruits and arthropods.

Subspecies
Related to White-headed Barbet (Lybius leucocephalus) and to Red-faced Barbet (Lybius rubrifacies), and all fairly close also to Vieillot's Barbet (Lybius vieilloti).
