Subspecies
Relationships unclear. Has been considered to form a superspecies with Blue-throated Barbet (Psilopogon asiaticus), and sometimes even thought conspecific, but differences in morphology indicate separate species status. Has also been allied by some authors to Black-browed Barbet (Psilopogon oorti).
