Not recognised as a species by BirdLife International. Considered by some as a subspecies of Bean Goose (Anser fabalis).
If treated as a seperate species there are two subspecies.
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Bean Goose (Anser fabalis).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
serrirostris Swinhoe, 1871 - Tundra of north-eastern Siberia, from Lena Delta to Anadyrland. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Bean Goose (Anser fabalis).
rossicus Buturlin, 1933 - Tundra of northern Russia and north-western Siberia, from Kanin to Taymyr Peninsulas. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Bean Goose (Anser fabalis).
