Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

thoracica (Temminck, 1815) - Southern China, from Sichuan east to Zhejiang and Seast through Guizhou to Guangdong.
sonorivox Gould, 1863 - Taiwan. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Taiwan Bamboo-partridge (Bambusicola sonorivox).
