Habitat
Damp grassland, particularly stands of tall grass. Sometimes bogs and swamps. From sea-level - 1,000 m.
Bangladesh (B), India (B).

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status EN
Drainage and destruction of tall grasslands is the main threat.

Habits
Shy, reluctant to fly. Usually in groups of 4 - 12.
Voice
A clear, whistled 'whit-it-it-t-t', with notes becoming higher and running together.
Subspecies
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- manipurensis (Hume, 1880) - North-eastern India (in hills of Manipur and Assam south of R Brahmaputra) and Bangladesh.
- inglisi (Ogilvie-Grant, 1909) - North-eastern India (in West Bengal and Assam north of R Brahmaputra).
