Habitat
Secondary and gallery forest, occurring in thickets and weed-covered areas. From 300 - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)

Angola (B) (NB).

Two disjunct populations in western Angola: southern Cuanza and western Milanje; and southern Benguela and extreme north-eastern Huila.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status LC
Habitat destruction and degradation is the main threat.

Food
Small arthropods, shoots, seeds.

Voice
Described as very similar to 'kerak kerak' crowing of Scaly Francolin (Pternistis squamatus), although there is some disagreement about this.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Ahanta Francolin (Pternistis ahantensis) and Scaly Francolin (Pternistis squamatus) and all have been separated in genus Squamatocolinus. Recently proposed reorganization of Francolinus places present species in genus Pternistis with 23 other species.
